speech of Principal on 18th July.

KV CME Pune -31          18th July 2011

It is indeed my pleasure to address you on this auspicious day that we are celebrating Vanamahotsava. Generally it is celebrated in the first week of July with the idea to create awareness among public to understand and conserve Nature. The aim of this  Vanamahotsava is to understand to live in harmony with Nature.

Vanamahotsava, a great festival of tree planting is being celebrated all over India in the first week of July every year with a message to all concerned to love & care for the nature, as nature alone is our future sustenance.

The concept of this great festival for the nature lovers was first initiated by (Late) K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minister for Food & Agriculture in the year 1950. It was the vision and wisdom of this great leader that the issue of environmental degradation, unless timely action is taken to prevent & restore, may go beyond human control & threatens the survival of any living organisms on this planet Earth. While survival & development of human being is important, it is also equally important to preserve the nature for our very existence.

Nevertheless trees are utilitarian and are also important for their ecological, social and public health values besides being source of food and wood.
Trees also conserve water, protect top-soil with fallen leaves, control weather, balance ecology and serve as material for medicines.  Forests influence the distribution of moisture in the atmosphere and ameliorate climatic conditions. They act as natural filter against dust and other suspended particles and absorb excessive noise and many a poisonous gasses. They also contribute significantly to the aesthetic appeal thereby helping to maintain the psychological health of the people. Thus plants and forests are undoubtedly the most formidable warriors in man’s battle to protect the environment world over. The importance of plants and forests in mitigating the ill impact of global warming and climate change is being recognized by policy planners and world leaders. The tree plantation  is an   awareness drive amongst the School Children for a Clean & Green Environment.

To conserve our rich bio-diversity and to rejuvenate the degraded areas, the peoples’ participation in this regard is absolutely necessary.

Let us  dedicate ourselves to safeguard & protect the ever-increasing deterioration of our environment. Let us have the culture of planting more trees not only for us today but also for the generations to come.

 VALUE OF A TREE
The commercial value of a tree depends on its weight, the quality of timber and the biomass or fruit it produces. All these however only add upto 0.3% of its real value. The other benefits derived for a medium sized tree of about 50 tonnes could be computed as under:

             1. Production of oxygen                Rs. 2,50,000.00

             2. Humidity control and recycling
                of water                            Rs. 3,00,000.00

             3. Air pollution control               Rs. 5,00,000.00

             4. Controling of soil erosion
                and fertility                       Rs. 2,50,000.00

             5. Sheltering of birds, squirrels,
                insects and plants                  Rs. 2,50,000.00

                                                   Rs. 15,50,000.00
This value of Rs. 15,50,000.00 for a medium size tree of 50 tonnes during a life span of 50 years does not include the value of its timber, fruits and flowers.
A tree is so good to man; it does not withdraw its shade even from the wood-cutter." Let us all plant more and more and Love Nature..

I express my sicere thanks to Sh.Sanjaydada Dharmadikari for organising such a grand function in  our school. On behalf of all the students and staff I  assure you Sir, that we will take care of all these sapling and nurture them to grow as big trees.
Thank you all .   Jai Hind.
